Hotel Chez Bassou is an hotel located right on the heart of the Atlas mountains, the biggest mountain range in Northern Africa. The village of Imilchil is known in Morocco for its fascinating Berber culture and its people, and every year we salute visitors with a thrilling Berber marriage festival.

Atlas Mountains
The Atlas Mountains(جبال اطلس) are a mountain range in northwest Africa extending about 2,400 km (1,500 miles) through Morocco, Algeria, and Tunisia, and including The Rock of Gibraltar. The highest peak is Jbel Toubkal, with an elevation of 4,167 m (13,665 feet) located at 31°03′43″N, 7°54′58″W in southwestern Morocco. The second highest mountain is the M'Goun of 4071 meters. The Atlas ranges separate the Mediterranean and Atlantic coastlines from the Sahara Desert. The population of the Atlas mountains are mainly Berber in Morocco and Arab in Algeria.

Because North America, Europe and Africa were connected eons ago, the Atlas mountains are believed to have originally been formed as part of Alleghenian orogeny. These mountains were formed when Africa and America collided, and were once a chain far higher than today's Himalaya. Today, the remains of this chain can be seen in the Fall line in the eastern United States. Some remnants can also be found in the later formed Appalachians in North America. The Sierra Nevada mountains in Spain were similarly formed in this continental collision.

The mountains are divided into the Grand Atlas of Morocco, which includes the Middle Atlas, High Atlas and Anti-Atlas. The lower Tell Atlas running near the coast and the larger Saharan Atlas running further south are located in Algeria.

Imilchil
Imilchil is a small town located 2200m high in the hearth of the Eastern High Atlas above Errachidia province and in the region of the Ait Hdiddou, one of the branches of the well known confederation of the Ait Yafelman.

Latitude:N 32° 9 ' 22 " Longitude:O 5 ° 37' 57.3"

The small mountain village of Imilchil represents a symbol of Amazigh (Berber) culture and is well known by its annual marriage festival, also known as "festival des fiançailles", Souk Aam or  ""Agdoud N'Oulmghenni"" this historical festivity is here to stay since that the party stands for one of the most important Amazigh festivals, where important cultural, mystical and artistic features and here held. The Ait Yaazza tribes stick to the traditions of group marriages instead of individual ones.This big Moussem represents the encounter of inter-tribal relations also represents a important commercial activity. The participation of  Berber folk music group: ( Khénifra, Midelt,Errachidia,Azrou etc.) gives this festival a great significance in the region.
